I've started coloring again - December color challenge!

It's been a long time, but I've started coloring again by participating in the December color challenge at 50 Shades of Color Facebook Group. This quick post will show you my first three days of work. I'm inspired and happy to dedicate myself to coloring each day. It's actually great me time and bonding time with my 10-yr old daughter. She is coloring along with me.

On Day 1 I colored this quote which is approx. 8 1/2" x 9.5" using wink of stella pens and brush markers.

Here's a better shot of the glittery goodness of Wink of Stella.

My daughter colored this cute bird! She did a great job!

Day 2 was a much smaller selection. This card is slightly larger than an ATC. I decided to use Tim Holtz Distress Markers.

On the third day of coloring my true love gave to me..... nah just kidding! But I did use prima and Lowe -Cornell watercolor pencils (without using water).

And of the fourth day (today) I colored this quote using Zig clean color real brush pens. It's 4" x 6" in size. This quote is SO true... so true. I had to learn this with the passing of my mom. I am walking in faith. Grieving is a day to day process.

Thanks for stopping by!

Lil Patch of Crafty Friends - Challenge 15: Anything Goes!

It's the start of another (always) anything goes challenge at the Lil Patch of Crafty Friends challenge blog.  I hope you'll enter up to 3 entries. But guess what? You now can enter an unlimited number of other challenges! I can't wait to see what you create!

There's three sponsors for this bi-weekly challenge. They're offering some great prizes!

Faery Ink -  Prize: 3 Images

Bugaboo Stamps - Prize: 7 Images

Imagine That! Digis...by Kris - Prize: $10 Gift Certificate
************************************************************
I chose Bugaboo Stamps - Chibi Elsa to design with. Frozen has been the most epic Disney movie in recent times. I figured I could present you with a little "let it go" action - the movie's most popular song.

I've had the most trouble wrapping my head around water coloring. I have watched many videos of people enjoying the randomness and such. I have tried a few times to no avail. But I am much too regimented and don't enjoy that look.

Last week I watched a YouTube video by Jenny McGuire using a Wink of Stella clear pen instead of water on a brush to blend colored pencils. It looked easy and was more controlled. That inspired me to challenge myself to give it another try using my new set of water color pencils by Prima Marketing and Wink of Stella to color Chibi Elsa.

Wow! I really love the results. I have a way to go in terms of determining how much color and how much water etc. But I really think I have found a way to incorporate water coloring into my repertoire. The best thing I learned is to use a water brush for any skin. The shimmer from the Wink of Stella makes faces look dirty and weird.

Supplies:
  • Digital stamp - Chibi Elsa by Bugaboo Stamps
  • 5x7” card base (stash)
  • Tim Holtz - distressed water color cardstock, stormy sky distress ink
  • EZ Runner - scrapbook adhesives
  • Xyron cheetah 2 adhesive
  • layered snowflakes - La Petites by The paper Studio
  • Epoxy snowflake - Recollections
  • Fine point water brush (stash)
  • White glitter font chipboard stickers - Thickers by American crafts
  • Snowflake punch around the page - Martha Stewart
  • Wink of Stella clear brush pen
  • Snowflake patterned paper - O Christmas Tree by Recollections
  • Prima watercolor pencils - 03, 88, 89, 107, 114
  • Loew-cornell water color pencils - magenta, cerulean blue, medium blue

A Day for Daisies - Prize - $12 Gift Certificate

Bugaboo Stamps - Prize - 7 Images

Karleigh Sue -  Prize - 4 Images
*****************************************************************************************************************

It was awesome to work with the Karleigh Sue image: Adrianna's Owl. I was really inspired to create something lovely. I was showing my daughter how to blend distress ink and we created several blends. So this card started with the rainbow strip. I chose all the colors for the card based on that.

I decided to print this image on draft (economy) mode so that the outline wouldn't be dark. I plan to do this a lot more often. Although I did need to darken the eyes of the image with a copic marker, everything else was just perfect. I had so much fun coloring and creating. The Lawn Fawn die and stamp really completed the look. The circle panel is raised on the remnants of pop dots for a stable passage through the mail. Isn't she so cute!!

Supplies:
  • Karleigh Sue image: Adrianna's Owl - printed on Copic Xpress It bending card on  draft mode
  • Inkessentials pop it
  • Wink of Stella - clear pen
  • Copic markers - C5 and (see picture below)
  • Stampin' Up! - orange ribbon
  • Stampendous - Fran's mixed media paper
  • Recollections - bling and black yardstick
  • Lawn Fawn - scripty sayings stamp set, large stitched circle stackable die
  • American crafts - card base
  • Versafine black onyx ink
  • Tim Holtz distressed ink - broken china, chipped sapphire, squeezed lemonade, peacock feathers, fossilized amber

Bright and Cheery Mother's Day Card featuring Faber-Castell

Mother's Day will soon be here! With this card a rare thing happened. I made the card base using Bazzill cardstock. Next was a superb Color Me Card Topper by Hot off the Press, fussy cut at the bottom and colored with Wink of Stella and Gelatos by Faber-Castell. Accents include a dimensional sticker from my stash, Recollections bling and stamps by Stampin' Up! in Versafine onxy black ink.

Two stamps were displayed within. I'm sure this card would brighten any mothers' day!

Hello magnolia by Ching-Chou Kuik!

It's a beautiful image with lots of hair (my arch nemesis!) I had fun learning where to put the highlights and low lights. I am sure you cannot guess what I colored with! Wink of Stella!!!

Here's a better look at the subtle shimmer you get with Wink of Stella brush pens. They have a limited color palate but I was able to layer colors to create deeper shades and to blend colors. I have never tried this technique with Wink and I was so happy with the results.

Wink does not yet have skin tones so I did use a Copic to color her skin with minimal blending. The rest of the CAS card came together rather quickly.

Supplies:
  • Stampendous mixed media cardstock (digi printed on...)
  • We R Memory Keepers - inked rose (Card base)
  • Live for today: dollar tree (sentiment)
  • simple stories say cheese - layers
  • wink of stella brush pens
  • Copic Marker E11
  • Scotch ATG

It's National Scrapbooking Day!! And today starts the countdown to Mother's Day!!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day! I hope you'll be entering challenges and singing up for giveaways and shopping for all those crafty goodies today!

I have started the countdown to Mother's Day today and wanted to share some cards for the occasion all week. Don't forget to stop back to see everything! Or subscribe and you won't miss a thing!

I'm crazy for Hot off the Press these days! Here's one of their color me card toppers. It is beautifully designed to take any color medium you love. I got busy with Gelatos and Wink of Stella.

After coloring I used a chipboard dimensional Mom sticker from my stash and a flower from Prima and bling/pearls from Recollections. The inside of the American Crafts card base was lined with text weight paper from The Paper Cut. I combined two sentiments - you are the greatest mom is from Clear and Simple Stamps and the other sentiment is from my stash. Both were stamped in memento tuxedo black ink.

Thanks for stopping by! Tell me how you are celebrating NSD!

Happy 1st Easter card featuring Stampin' Up!

Happy Easter!!!

I was asked to create a first Easter card recently and this is what I came up with. It was a labor of love starting with Anna Griffin Christmas perfect palette (card base and top note). I grabbed a my Cuttlebug, a scrap of patterned cardstock from DCWV, Spellbinders, Wink of Stella, stamps and flowers from Stampin' Up! among other things.

To achieve a more pastel look, I added Memento ink and stamped off onto scrap paper before stamping on my project. In other words, I used the 2nd generation stamping technique for both the sentiment and the focal. The sentiment came out too light so I decided to trace it with a Spica at you glitter pen by Imagine Crafts. Then I went over the focal with wink of stella for a subtle glittery finish.

Supplies

  • DCWV nana's kids
  • ribbon from my stash
  • Stampin' Up! crochet flowers stamps sets - well scripted, Easter blossoms
  • Anna Griffin Christmas perfect palette - card base and top note
  • Spellbinder's scallop circle die
  • Tree House Studios - leaf sequins
  • Cuttlebug summer set
  • Recollections pearls, 3D Lots
  • Memento inks
  • Wink of Stella
  • Imagine crafts - spica at you glitter pen
  • Studio G - Internal sentiment - some bunny loves you

This card can still fit in a normal envelope. However, to be double sure I'd suggest a padded one.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday with friends and family!

Our Friendship Quilt Card featuring Repeat Impressions

I had some fun with Repeat Impressions stamps today! The focal is a combo of the Quilt Frame stamp and a heart image. The quilt frame stamp is over a year old but this is the first time I used it. I don't know how to sew, so this is the next best thing! I like the versatility in the design. You can color the patterns a number of different ways, all with excellent results. I colored in the designs using a variety of Wink of Stella brush markers. These markers are the best for coloring in all those tiny spots and spaces. The glittery finish is awesome.

Repeat Impression's friendship stamp was used for the internal sentiment. I used a thread spool from my stash to bring home the sewing theme.

Happy Birthday Card using Gelatos, Wink of Stella, Color Me Card Toppers and Tim Holtz Distress Ink

I've been playing with an American Crafts card base, Gelatos by Faber-Castell and Wink of Stella brush glitter markers! This 5 x7" happy birthday card was made with a Color Me Card Topper and sentiment, Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Recollections bling!

I've watched many videos that show how easy it is to work with Gelatos and a baby wipe applied directly to the project. I found it easy to do in large areas, however, the smaller areas were more challenging and didn't lend well to my design aesthetic. So I remedied the situation by using Wink of Stella. I also applied Gelatos to a craft mat and picked up the color with a fine paintbrush dipped in water to add in the confined areas. I liked that much better.

Have you tried Gelatos? What's your experience, tips and tricks?
