Tim Holtz Distress Glitter Birth Announcement Frame

I got crafty this past weekend! I made a birth announcement frame for my son's daycare teacher. I was inspired by the song "Isn't she lovely" - Stevie Wonder.  I also was dying to use this Heidi Swapp frame and the new Tim Holtz Distress glitter. This was a labor of love and a craft of truly epic proportions. The nursery colors are pink and brown. Pink is my favorite color so I was tickled to work on this project. The walls are pink so I though focusing on brown would allow the birth announcement to pop on the wall.

Supplies
  • Heidi Swapp decorative wooden shadow box frame 13.5" x 11"
  • Recollections - felt bow, bling, sequin bear
  • American crafts - Thickers
  • Adhesives: 3D Galazy Gloss, Hot glue, Glossy Accents, sticky dots by The Paper Studio
  • Ribbon - stash (perhaps from Micheal's)
  • My Mind's Eye - lost and found two polka dot cardstock
  • Basic Grey - "happy day" flair from the Hey Girl collection
  • Tim Holtz - blending tool, Vintage Photo distress ink and distress glitter
  • Buckle Boutique - Dazzling Diamonds (mounted to mat board and cut with Sizzix die)
  • Flowers - pebbles, paper studio - spare parts, prima, jolee's, recollections
  • Copic markers - E37, E18 hand colored pearls in the bottom right corner

I printed the picture at 25% and edited it in PicMonkey to add the birth info and a simple frame. The picture is mounted on two layers of the leftover part from pop dots. I use it all!

Although it's not my usual style, I took a risk and created a collage with flowers and accents. Some I built by laying with foam tape. The flower in the lower corner was made by my friend Lyne and I added my new fav craft item - dazzling diamonds by Buckle Boutique. My friend and CTMH rep Cardmonkey Jarvis gave me some to play with at Eileen Hull's Paper Trail. Eileen brought mat board and sizzix dies to get our crafty juices going. Thanks ladies!!

Tim Holtz distress glitter is like glass glitter but without the glass (YAY!). It goes on best with a wet glue that dries clear. I tinted the decorative part of the wood with Vintage Photo distress ink first just in case I missed any spots with the glitter. The result is a vintage look with a brilliant shine. Love it!! I also love the depth of the frame. It's perfect for really tall embellishments and for layering to build the perfect scene.

I attached the ribbon to the back with hot glue using plaid hot glue helpers. The best thing that ever happened to me!! I was able to spread the hot glue and press it with the tools and not get burned or make a mess! Woo hoo! I will use hot glue much more often now-a-days!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post and will let me know what you think!

So thankful for you card

It's always nice to have a collection of thank you cards stashed away for your own use. Here's my latest creation hot off the press to enter two challenges today. The first challenge at Sketchy Friday offered the sketch and the second challenge called for the use of chevrons - Fabulous Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs. The combination came together quickly once I started digging through my patterned scraps. I've never worked with these colors together (I love pink and lighter colors) but I am glad to have dabbled in richer colors. It also has been fun to make a project and post it right after. Big fun!

We're Pregnant! Layout - Instant Baby Scrapbook

I've got the spark! While working for a client to create an instant scrapbook for a baby boy, I have expeienced some of my most creative moments this year. I attribute it to the calm I feel about my craft organization. I can view and find everything because I use the ScrapRack and the 4 section system for organizing everything taught by Tiffany Spaulding (creator of the ScrapRack).

This pregnancy layout starts with My Mind's Eye - Wild Asparagus cardstock and blue distressed frames. Using the Cricut Cartridge 9 Months I created this entire layout. The lady, the titles the untrasound graphic. It's a go to cart for pregnancy and baby. On the ultrasound embellishment, I used Copic markers to color in the baby. The hearts are from a valentines set of puffy alphas I got in the $ section at walmart some years ago.

These are the cutest titles I have seen for this cut from 9 Months. Instead of layering some of the pieces, I cut everything out in white Bazill basics cardstock, left it on the mat and used copics to color in the sections I needed. I even did that for the layered pieces. Great time saver! I was able to quickly color the images, going outside the lines, to give it a completely covered look. I am in love with glitter cardstock from DCWV! I had to add some bling - boy book or not!

The Fine Art of Scraplifting - Baby Milestones Layout

Ok, I hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane this past month while I shared all the projects I created (and then made my own) at CKC events. It's time to start showing my orginal designs again. So it's all me now! LOL.

I love to be inspired by other crafters on Pinterest or other sites. You never know when inspiration will hit. I caught FIRE when I received an email with a milestones layout (shown at the bottom of the post - wish I could rember where it originated) as I was working on an instant scrapbook for baby's first year and was looking for a fresh new way to show milestones. I scraplifted the sketch and made it my own. I am VERY VERY excited and pleased with the results. I encourage you to scraplift something you see me or someone else making today!

I kept the major aspects of the layout with the vertical strips and the accents going across the page. I expect that the family that received this book will alternate the pictures and hand written journaling as shown in the inspiration layout. However, the layout that inspired me was for a girl, so I need to transform it to a boy layout. I did so with the color pallate, font and the use of stars instead of scallop circles.

The page covers Baby's first smile, first bath and first tooth.
  • Font - Cricut Cartridge Mickey Font
  • Embossing - Cuttlebug Word Collage
  • Smiley Face button - Recollections
  • Bath silhouette, Tooth - Cricut Cartridge A Child's Year
  • Striped cardstock - My Mind's Eye - Wild Asparagus

This page covers the first solid foods, Crawling and Walking. Additional supplies include:
  • Bib/Peas - Cricut Image Cartridge Nursery Tails
  • Crawling baby - Cricut Cartridge New Arrival
  • Walking silhouette - Cricut Cartridge A Child's Year - note: this cut included a beach bucket in the left hand of the child. I cut it off by hand to acheive the look I needed.
Here's some close ups....

Here's where my inspiration began!
If you love it, let me know! If you have scraplifting tips, share 'em! Thanks for stopping by.
