MacGyver Crafting - February 2014 Challenge at the Crafty Card Gallery

Do I have an awesome post for you today!!??!!

When I opted-in for the Crafty Card Gallery's February challenge I didn't know WHAT I was in for!! I've been on several design teams and figured whatever I was asked, I could handle. Well, little did I know that I would receive an envelope of mystery materials to make a card with. When the envelope arrived I was truly confused and felt like a crafty MacGyver or something. The items were truly random. Aren't you curious???

This month's envelope included temporary (paper) window blinds and some decorative Scotch brand tapes.

The rules of the challenge are simple: you must use everything in the envelope and the materials must be clearly visible on the card.

I created a motivational birthday card for a close friend with the materials. I used the paper blinds by cutting it down to just under 2" wide, punched it with a Martha Stewart punch, sprayed with fireworks and created a rosette. The center of the rosette is covered with one of the scotch tapes and the other was cut with decorative scissors and used like Washi tape along the bottom of the card.

I love the sentiment from Stampin' Up! - Feels Good set. To complete the look I cut a Recollections bling flourish and strategically placed it around the sentiment.

Supplies:
  • Provided materials temporary (paper) blinds and scotch patterned tape
  • Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page - Heart Chain
  • Temporary blinds cut to just under 2" wide
  • Fireworks spray - ladybug
  • Recollections - bling
  • Stampin' Up! - Feels good
  • Deco scissors
  • Memento - Tuxedo Black
  • Bazzill - red cardstock
  • American Crafts - Pink 5x7 cardstock

This was a very cool challenge to participate in. To see all the designers' creations, please visit the Crafty Card Gallery.

Children's Valentine's Day Cards

Today is a big snow day here in PA so I sat down to make my kids' Valentine's Day cards. The inspiration started with Wink of Stella pens, the Whoo's Your Valentine stamp set from Stampin' Up!, 6x6 cardstock: Pink Lemonade from Lawn Fawn and a mat stack from Martha Stewart crafts.

This card is for my 5 year old son Aidan. He likes trains and I love the message! The card base is from Martha Stewart and the layers are from Lawn Fawn. I used an EK Success punch to create the zig-zag pattern and emboss the stitching.

This one is for my 9 year old daughter Zora. the hearts and the plaid cardstock are Martha Stewart and the dotted yellow paper is from Lawn Fawn. I love this little owl and saying!! The scalloped edge on the yellow cardstock was created with a punch from EK Success.

I love my munchkins! Both cards have the same message inside with a written love message from mommy. The stamp is from my stash and is probably from Michael's crafts.

The Wink of Stella pens are so glittery!! I love 'em. I used it to color the image and ink the edges. I colored less on the train to make it less glittery for my son.

But I went all out for my daughter's!! Glittery goodness!! Woo hoo! I hope you enjoyed my little reveal and enjoy your Valentine's Day!

Cards Galore Encore Challenge 2: Bling it Up!

Challenge 2: Bling it Up! is live at Cards Galore Encore
This month create a project and add a gem, pearl, or some glitter etc. Easy peasy right?

Our Sponsor is Scrapper's Delights and the prize is 3 of their Digis

I fell in love with Scrapper's Delights Love Fairy 2 and thought it was perfect for Valentine's Day. It is February... ya know!! It comes with and without wings, colored or not colored. It's so versatile and fun to color. Minimal shading is needed to make this image look it's best. I re-sized it (to make it bigger) in word before printing. The quality and array of digis at Scrapper's Delights is second to none!

Here's a closer view of the coloring (to see the whole card scroll down). I am new to coloring and having fun learning new techniques. To create the color for the hair I combined gray and blue. Any coloring tips are greatly appreciated. Just leave me a comment below! Thanks!

To bling it up, I added ultra fine glitter with a quickie glue pen to her outfit and some love glitter tape across the bottom of the card. A little will do ya for this challenge but feel free to add more to your project entry if you like!

Supplies:
  • Scrapper's Delights - Love Fairy 2
  • Copic Xpress It Blending card
  • Copics - 0, Hair: C1, C3, C5, C7, B45; Skin: E11, E13, E15, R81; Outfit: RV09, RV13
  • Copic Multiliner - black
  • American Crafts 5x7 pink card
  • Darice - heart embossing folder
  • The Stamps of Life - standup4sentiments
  • Quickie glue pen
  • Recollections - Glitter tape
  • Queen and Co. - chevron washi tape
  • Sparkle n Sprinkle - ultra fine transparent crystal glitter
  • Scotch ATG
Here's the whole card. I am so into washi and glitter tape these days! I can't get enough of it. It offers just the right amount of contrast and style. I also love the combo of pink, hot pink and white. The standing sentiment is from The Stamps of Life and is the perfect accompaniment for the image.

I hope you enjoyed this presentation and will consider entering the challenge this month! I can't wait to see your entires (3 max).
