It was awesome to work with the Karleigh Sue image: Adrianna's Owl. I was really inspired to create something lovely. I was showing my daughter how to blend distress ink and we created several blends. So this card started with the rainbow strip. I chose all the colors for the card based on that.    

I decided to print this image on draft (economy) mode so that the outline wouldn't be dark. I plan to do this a lot more often. Although I did need to darken the eyes of the image with a copic marker, everything else was just perfect. I had so much fun coloring and creating. The Lawn Fawn die and stamp really completed the look. The circle panel is raised on the remnants of pop dots for a stable passage through the mail. Isn't she so cute!!

St. Patrick's Day ATC

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! 

This weekend I went to Heirloom's Allentown Rubber Stamp & Paper Arts Festival. They ran an Artist Trading Card (ATC) challenge with a Luck of the Irish theme. Here's my entry.

The ATC card is from Inkessentials. I ran it through my xyron machine face down to make the front of the card sticky. I then applied 2 types of washi tape to create the grass and sky. The focal die cut, layers and shamrock can be found on the Create a Critter 2 Cricut cart. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up! and the google eyes were from my stash.

Playing with my Viva Decor Pearl Pens - Play Football Tag

I'm back with another tag today. While I have owned several colors of pearl pen for a couple of years I have never tried it until now!! I tell you, 2014 is it! I am going to try out all the things I am hoarding in this craft room! I made the pearls on a craft sheet this time but I am strong enough with it now to make it right on my next project.

I made several of this tag for an all-boy swap.  I figured most boys are into sports at some point. I hoping my son doesn't play football but I figured hey... it's one of America's favorite pastimes.

Get Inky! Challenge 12: Cupcakes

Guess what? There's a new challenge posted to the Get Inky! Challenge blog and it's a fun one! This time we are challenging you to make projects using cupcakes. As a part of the team that exemplifies the challenge, I decided to think out of the box a little to get your creative juices flowing.

Using the Sew Sweet Cupcakes and Joyful Jar Drinks stamp sets available on Etsy, I created a happy birthday Artist Trading Card (ATC). ATCs measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" - and are the smallest craft I've made to date. I wouldn't consider myself a small crafter but I am learning to work small and loving it!

Here's my ATC!

This ATC is super special because I used Get Inky! Stamps with honeycomb paper to create a 3D effect. It was my first time creating with the dynamic duo and I enjoyed it so much I'm making it a normal part of my crafty toolbox.

Here's another view to show you how tall the cupcake wrapper becomes with the honeycomb paper. To create this look, I stamped half of the bottom of the Get Inky! cupcake stamp onto the honeycomb paper in tuxedo black memento ink. I cut it out and set it aside. Then I took a second ATC and stamped the entire cupcake image in Bahama Blue and fussy cut it out and colored it with Copics.

Using a Tombo glue stick I added glue to the bottom of the honeycomb paper and lined it up with the bottom of the cupcake. Once it was stuck down I applied glue stick the top portion of the honeycomb paper and opened it like a fan and stuck it down on the other side of the stamped cupcake wrapper. Adding crystal ultrafine transparent glitter was a snap with my Quickie glue pen.

I learned a valuable lesson while making this ATC. When choosing a stamp to use honeycomb paper with, make sure the shape is symmetrical. I wanted to do the icing as well but since it wasn't. When I opened the honeycomb paper the shaped looked like a cone. I saved it to use on another craft at some point. But thought I'd pass on the tip to save you time and frustration.

We were asked to create an ATC to help introduce ourselves and to share some of our fav past projects as well as a Q and A. I decided to create a self portrait ATC using a stamp I love from Stampland, transparent glitter and lots of bling! I love my natural hair and wearing headbands with flowers, bling etc.

Here's a little more about me... 

1. What is your scrapbook "kryptonite"?

Believe it or not, mixed media project and mini albums have been my craft kryptonite for a long time. Mixed media is cool but I don't even know where to start. Mini albums stress me out because the page is so small. I love to work in 12x12 because it offers maximum space to create. But I am slowly warming up to the thought of mini albums. 

2. What do you listen to or watch while your scrap? Why?

I like to put on Pandora on the Dwele station because it offers the most variety of Rhythm and Blues - my fav. The music keeps me groovin' and in a creating mood. Other times I listen to YouTube crafting tutorials. I love learning new techniques.

3. How do you jump start your creativity when you find that it is missing?

I follow many craft blogs, YouTube channels, Pinterest boards, Facebook fan pages and participate in challenges to keep my creativity flowing. If none of those help I usually take a break and come back refreshed and ready to go. 

4. At what time of day are you most creative?

I am most creative in the late morning/early afternoon. I usually get the most crafty endeavors done when my children are at school. But I am constantly brainstorming - sometimes even in my sleep!

This is one of my fav past projects. I made an 8x8 scrapbook page of my nephew. A lot of love, hear and soul went into this one! For more info on this project click here.

5. What are your favorite techniques to use right now? Why? 

I am really into stamping, inking the edges, dry embossing, heat embossing, coloring with Copics, apply transparent ultra fine glitter and creating dimension and scenes in my work. I think all of these techniques out together make the most interesting projects. Embossing takes any project up a notch and glitter gives projects that wow factor. Scenes help bring my point of view across and stamping and coloring are my staples!

6. What are some tried and true techniques you love to use?

The best technique I have is my connection to my work. For me, without that, the work has no meaning. I have to feel something in order to create it. Secondarily, my work is usually clean and simple. I love a certain amount of white space, balance, symmetry and sentiments with meaning. Once I have that, creating is a snap. Add bling, ribbon, flowers, or an action wobble and I'm golden!

Hello ATC for Denami Patterned Paper Blog Hop!!!

For my project I designed an Artist Trading Card (ATC) using Denami Designs Large Chickie stamp and patterned cardstock from my stash. I was so happy when Denami came out with this stamp! It's just my size!

Combining colors comes easy, but mixing patterns is a bit more challenging for me. My rule of thumb is to use patterns that are in the same color palate, those that blend into a scene I am creating or ones that contrast well. I inked certain areas of the ATC with Tim Holtz distressed ink to bring the look together, while differentiating between the different patterns.

The Chickie is raised on foam tape as the star of the ATC. I used small elements fussy cut from the same green patterned cardstock, adorned with bling and raised on foam tape to create more depth. The flowers in this Chickie's wing and on the ground were cut from the same cardstock as the grassy knoll. The clouds were cut down from a larger border stamp and the "hello" also came from a border stamp (what a little masking will do!). I hope you enjoyed this project and will be inspired to create an ATC with patterned paper and Denami Designs.

Artist Trading Card, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, A Prayer

On Sunday I returned to the Heirloom's Rubber Stamp and Paper Arts Festival as bonding time for my daughter and I. We both entered the Artist Trading Cards (ATC) contest to win show bucks. The theme was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. We went to do the make 'n takes together and sometimes I just assist. It is a joy to see my daughter learning new techniques and developing a love for crafting.

The ATC is 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" with a stamped image from Another Stamp Company. I love this little brown girl with her afro. It was quick and minimal on purpose since my Saturday entry required a lot of work.

Twinkle, Twinkle ATC

 

 

I'm headed to the Heirloom's Rubber Stamp and Paper Arts Festival this weekend. They run an Artist Trading Cards (ATC) contest based on a theme during the show to win show bucks. Last year I entered for the first time and I decided to go for it again this year. The theme is Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Working this small ( 2 1/2" x 3 1/2") is very hard for me but I tried my best to bring across the theme. I enjoyed bringing together stamps sets to achieve this look and blending distress inks to create the night sky and the grassy knoll. Stickles in various colors seemed perfect for the diamonds in the sky! Fabric markers were used to create the grass and to color in the tree leaves and trunk. Stamping the house on white cardstock allowed me to color it differing colors and with a fussy cut, the house seamlessly fits into the scene. Wish me luck! Next week, I'll be sure to share my class projects and haul with you.
