Guess what??????? SURPRISE!! It's not a card! Woo hoo!

I actually made a multi-layered ornament for my tree.  Although it is colored with distress inks in an ombre fashion, (darkest on the bottom layer and lightest on the top) it did not show well on camera. 

Here's a closeup of my ornament. The single stamp used to create this snowflake is Holly House Originals - Breckenridge Snow Diamond. I stamped it 7 times and cut out different aspects to create the layers. The bling on all layers of the ornament really makes it sparkle and shine. It's my fav part!

Santa loves my ornament and wanted to tell you so himself. Ho! Ho! Ho! 

And here's a tip for ya! To make sure your ornament hangs properly, use a tiny attacher to connect your ribbon pieces before adhering the ribbon loop to your ornament. Once it's attached, twist the ribbon into place and staple it once more to make sure it will always show in the front position.

Making Jewelry with Craft Supplies - Crafts Galore Encore Anything Goes Challenge

I decided to switch it up this month and try a kit I have had for at least 2 years. I know, I know.... we all do it. We hoard for that rainy day when we are brave enough to try something new. Well I always visited the Outlines booth at craft fairs and everything was so ornate and sparkly I couldn't even imagine being able to reproduce any of it. I'd get very overwhelmed and leave without buying anything. Well, a few years back I did buy one of their kits called harmonica necklace and earring set. Outlines Rubber Stamp Co. closed in 2012 and I'm so sad because now that I tried it I would love to make more.

Feast your eyes.... this set is made with some jewelry findings, cardstock, stamping, heat embossing, glue and bling. It is even more stunning in person!

Here's a closer look at the pendant. I was provided with the chain, bail, filigree square and round a stamp, aquamarine and blue Zircon (bling), crystal lacquer and black cardstock. I had to provide gold embossing powder, pigment ink, a heat gun and a jewelry tool.

To ensure a clean embossed image, I prepped my surface with a Stampin' Up! embossing buddy to remove all moisture from the cardstock. I then decided to use Stampin' Up! Gold Glory embossing powder for that antique gold look. The stamping was done in Encore! ultimate metallic gold ink as a back up for any area I might have missed with the embossing.  For the pendant I had to stamp and heat emboss the harmonica jewel image (see below) twice and cut out certain portions of the design (see below), apply crystal lacquer and let it dry. The first square shows the missing part cut for the pendant and the second square shows what I cut for the dangling part of the pendant. Only a tiny square of the second embossed image was needed. I cut two just in case.

Next, the pendant square had to be adhered to another piece of the black cardstock in order to accommodate gluing the bail in-between the layers. Once dry all the pieces were coated with crystal lacquer on top and bottom and adhered to the filigree pieces with the same adhesive. While still wet, I adhered the bling in the pattern provided and once it dried it was pure perfection!

The earrings were made the same way. It required stamping and embossing two more times to cut out the small squares for the earrings (see below).

Placing the bling can be challenging. But the kit included toothpicks with wax on the end to make a handle (see below). Sometimes going old school is the way to go! I let them dry overnight to be sure before I put on the earring hooks.

I was amazed with the results. I cannot even tell it's cardstock or something homemade. I sooooo wish I had gotten more of these kits... ah well, such is life.

I am not sure if I should wear these myself or give them away as as gift. It's an 18" gold chain. Hmmmm. What do you think?

My Mind's Eye Chalkboard Christmas Cards and Stamplistic Envelope Dress-Ups for Operation Write Home

When Operation Write Home sent out an emergency call for Christmas cards for the troops I decided to help. They asked for 5 cards from each supporter. I decided to make chalkboard style cards. Here's what I came up with.

The boxed cards by My Mind's Eye came embellished with a frame on the card front. Using one large stamp I completed this card by heat embossing and adding hot-fix bling.

This would not have been possible if I didn't use the mini mount from Impression Obsession to hold this large clear stamp. The clear block has a handle and is curved to allow for fool proof stamping of any image but especially larger ones.

In this version, I used the other sentiment stamp in the set to create a layer using the same techniques. The layer was then trimmed and added to the front of Recollections 100 lb. cardstock.

On all three cards I applied chalk dust to give it that true chalkboard look. I colored with a large piece of chalk on my palm and rubbed it on the cards as not to disturb the embossing. This version started with a different base card design but using the same stamp. There were 5 cards in all.

The fun doesn't stop there!! I decided to embellish the envelopes since the cards were rather simple in their design. It took the situation from nice to spectacular (in my mind at least)! Using the 2 stamp set by Stamplistic Collection - envelope dress ups - holiday I added some festive stamping to all 5 envelopes.

The quickest way to add color and shine is to use Zig Wink of Stella brush tip markers. The key with these is to remove the black ring and throw it away once you get your pen, close it up, shake it well and then squeeze it a tiny bit until a tiny amount of the fluid gets into the pen reservoir. Then let gravity bring the solution down to the tip. If you over squeeze you'll end up with a blog on your project. Ask me how I know.....

In this closeup you can really see the subtle glittery finish of these colored markers.

And here's the group shot! It took me about a half hour to color all 5 since the areas were so tiny. Luckily the Wink of Stella have a really fine brush tip.

Stenciled Cami using Prima Marketing Free Spirit

I'm so excited to share my first stenciled cami! I recently watched a video on Prima Marketing's YouTube channel and was inspired to try stenciling on fabric myself. With the Scrapbook Expo coming up and a most creative tee shirt contest arranged by Croppers Delight NYC there was even more reason to create this stenciled cami. Croppers Delight NYC negotiated free and reduced items at many of the booths and you have to show you were part of the group to receive the discounts.

The Free Spirit stencil is 12x12. I used Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso to stencil the image. Then it got interesting... I added my own twist. While wet I sprinkled on Recollections sparkle embossing powder. After allowing it to air dry for some time, I used a heat gun to melt the embossing powder. The glorious sparkly design is amazing! I simply added the group name and my signature and voila!

Heartfelt Creations - Bella Rose Leaves Canvas

I love a great find! I was milling around TJ Max and found a five pack of canvases on a random clearance table. I figured hey, this will come in handy some day! Well guess what? Today is the day! I'm dipping my toe into mixed media. I needed a daily reminder for my weight loss journey so I chose an appropriate quote and my fav stamp (that I own) by Heartfelt Creations - Bella Rose Leaves.

To achieve this look, I stamped the image in the upper left hand corner with Stazon ink. Then I painted the entire canvas with gesso. When it dried there was a light outline of the stamp showing through the gesso. I used those guidelines to trace the stamped image with Stickles. After about a couple of hours drying time, I used brush stix (chisel and round tips) to add color to the leaves with Tim Holtz distress inks.

I then added the quote in my own handwriting and faux stitching around the edges using a Copic marker. Next, I sponged on distress inks to blend a two-color background. To activate the ink and leave a subtle spotted background, I sprayed on some sheer shimmer spritz by Imagine Crafts. The final touch was some bling of course!

I have seen people using clear glitter on patterned or stamped paper for a long time and it always looks so magical! Today I wanted to create some magic myself! I cut out a flower from the Vintage double sided paper in my stash. I think it's from DCWV (but don't quote me on that) and applied an even coat of Zig 2 Way glue. I then used my heat tool to dry the glue (making it repositionable). I sprinkled the glitter on the image and I love love love it! However, the camera did not pick up all the glittery goodness exactly like I wanted. Even so, the glitter took the vintage paper and made it look more vintage to me.

Here's the paper I used. Hopefully you can see the difference the glitter brings to it. The bow is tied with vintage seam binding. I plan on giving this card to my daughter when the time is just right!
