Kraftie Kre8ations DT - Black and Orange

It's time for another Kraftie Kre8ations reveal! We've got your black and orange just in time for Halloween! This time I decided to really challenge myself to make something different. In my crafting, I hardly use stickers, glossy accents and I had not figured out the mechanics of pop-up cards. This project includes all 3!!!!

The card base is by American Crafts and most of the card (inside and outside) is adorned in October Afternoon Witch Hazel collection. My friend Lyne suggested I use glossy accents on the black dress to make it pop. Thanks Lyne!

A product I love from Art Gone Wild is their Crafty Cutts Dies CCD-023 Rectangle Stairs. It's a die that cuts 4 levels of stairs for pop up cards. I used 3 of the levels for this card. The die cuts all four at once with the score lines. It was very easy to cut, fold and attach. All I had to do was use my powder tool from EK Success to remove the stickiness from the stickers (leaving a small portion sticky) and attach them to the "stairs."

Finally, the moon was made with Bazzill cardstock, Antique linen Distress Ink and the Creative Memories cutting system. Here's a closeup of the pop up.

Christmas Cards for OWH - Warm Wishes

Welcome back for day 2 of the big reveal! If you missed day 1, check it out here. 

Here's two more Christmas cards designed by myself and my 8-year-old daughter for OWH. On this day I introduced her to Copic coloring and shading. She did the coloring and I did some minor shading.  We built on her knowledge from before with Recollections color core cardstock, stamping with Hero Arts stamps and ribbon tying. She is already a master with punches. But I did introduce her to the Creative Memories cutting system for the circle.

Here's a close up of her coloring. I think she did a phenomenal job! Copics: R29, E35, E37, C1, G17

The second card showcases another stamped image by Hero Arts. Isn't the tree just perfect???

The coloring and shading was done with Copics: B0000, G17, G85, E29, E37, Y15.

Forever Young Graduation Card

I love making custom orders because it allows me to do what I do best. I love hearing about the recipient and tailoring the card exactly to the things I learn about them. It makes it much more effective. The intention of love from me to my client and from that client to the recipient is palpable. It's when I am most at peace. It is truly why I craft. 

Thus, I created two cards while sick for a friend honoring a family member who has graduated from college (school colors orange and blue). I don't usually craft while ill. It was the most difficult thing to do. Usually I can pull together cards in an instant but this one was work. I am very pleased with the result and so is my client. I'll share the other card sometime next week. You won't want to miss it!!

Give Thanks Birthday Card

A friend ordered a birthday card for the stylish first lady of her church and this is what I came up with!

I decided to create an elegant card using one of the new Anna Griffin embossing folders and DCWV metallic cardstock - the perfect combination! I love shades of pink. This time I decided to also emboss the flap of the envelope. It was very easy to emboss the top three-quarters of the envelope flap and line it up to emboss the rest without an interruption. An unheard of situation in the past with Cuttlebug. I am really enjoying the finer details and design of the Anna Griffin folders.

The stamping came out a little light in areas (especially the word LORD) because the card is textured and my ink pad is worn. I colored in the missing spots with my Zig writer marker using both the broad and fine tips.

If you follow me, you know I do not truly finish the interior of my cards. But I had a master plan today!! Ha ha!! Once my friend described the recipient as stylish I immediately thought of Forever Young. I repeated the embossing and color scheme from the front of the card and created this stylish lady. I even had a little fashion show trying on several patterns of dresses on her before deciding on Provo Craft scrapbook paper. 

It's quite a surprise when you open this card. I usually place major images like this on the outside of a card rather than the inside. I love the stamp sets I used from Stampin' up! They went together like a hand and glove! The finishing touch was adding the bling in shades of green. This is definitely a style I will create again. Love it!

Jungle Baby Shower Cupcake Picks

I love making cupcake picks! It's a hot seller for me right now - especially for baby showers and birthdays. These are for a jungle themed baby shower and I love how they came out. If you haven't tried to dress up your cupcakes, give it a whirl. It makes any occasion so much more festive!

A few tips and tricks for you... I usually create tiny die cuts to adorn my cupcake pics but I recently started using stickers. The DCWV Animal Crackers stack came with a page of glittered stickers (and a page of die cuts) in the front of the stack. It was very convenient to use coordinating stickers to bring together this look. When the stickers were too large to fit, I used a 1.5" Marvy punch to punch out just a portion of the image.

Inking the edges (sometimes with a similar color, others with an opposite color) helped to create dimension. I always add extra adhesive, Terrifically Tacky tape, to my stickers. They never seem to be sticky enough and it may not adhere to certain surfaces. Better safe than sorry! I also use the Terrifically Tacky tape between the layers of the double sided cupcake pick and to hold the toothpick in place. This particular stamp said B is for boy but since this baby shower is for twins, I added the "s" with my Copic multiliner.

Washi Tape Sunburst LO

Here's my version of a washi tape sunburst. My idea was to cut a whole in the cardstock in order to place a second piece of cardstock behind with the washi tape stuck down in a sunburst pattern. The tape was very forgiving no matter how many times I took it off to rearrange it.

Graduate Hello Kitty Card

I remade this card - one I made for my daughter years ago (click here for the original post) - for someone yesterday. I love it even more now that I corrected a multitude of sins from the original version. 

My fav tip from this project is... when you punch the card edge before embossing the front, the pressure will cause the punched area to emboss the cardstock on the inside of the card. I accentuated that embossing by inking the hearts with Tsukineko Brushstix and Hero Arts Pink Neon ink (applicator through the punched areas) and outlined with Zig Millennium pen in pink. 

I love the Quickie Glue pen's fine tip to help keep the tiny parts of her bow and her neck in place. Using 3 - 3D glue dots under the left side, I attached the Hello Kitty and her hat to the card front.

Get Inky! Challenge 3: Fabulous Floral Fun

This is officially my first post as a design team member for Get Inky! Stamps by Blue Moon Creation! I'm so excited! I really let my creativity fly on this one to inspire and entice you! Get Inky! Stamps offers flowers in both physical and digital form but I wanted to show you how to get more out of the stamps by creating my own flower. The stamps I used were the bow in the Joyful Jar Drinks set and the curved ribbon in the Sew Sweet Cupcakes set. Both the bee and the sentiment came from the Buzzing Bees set (see below). 

In order to make the center of the flower, I masked off the other parts of the bow with painter's tape. Once I inked it up, I removed the tape and stamped my image.

Next, I masked off everything but the right side of the bow including some of the circle part to ensure continuity.

Using the same tape over and over, I re-inked the same petal and made my way around the circle.

Depending on how closely you stamp the petals you may need to apply a mask to the stamped image to make sure the last petal doesn't overlap. I find the new post it notes that are sticky over the entire surface work best. When you stamp the last petal some of the image will be stamped on the post it note.

Once the flower was done I used the curved ribbon stamp from the Sew Sweet Cupcakes set to create the stem. The rest is history! I hope this project inspired you to think out of the box when it comes to stamping! Thanks for stopping by!

Anniversary Spinner Card

Today my project is the result of combining 4 different challenges: a sketch from Sketchy Friday, color inspiration from Tsunami Rose Designs, anniversary theme from Hiding in My Craft Room, and the technique of using brayering of sponging from Repeat Impressions. I had lots of fun using most of these materials and tools for the first time. Now that I am organized I use new things so much faster and have been pulling out the older things as well. I loved the sponging technique to create the heart background and the shading on the spinner wheel.

KISS - Keep it Simple... I went old school today with some of my crafting techniques. I pulled out a pencil and traced the circle stamp onto the cardstock to get the right sized circle, cut it out by hand and then re-trimmed it once I stamped the image. It was much quicker than pulling out the Cricut, cuttlebug, dies (because I didn't have a punch the right size). Then I used the sponge and ink to not only ink the edges, but to color in the beige parts of the spinner to give them a pink tinge. Love it! Here's a closer look. The spinner hand is attached with a small brad that comes in the package from Stampin' Up! I affixed it tightly to make sure you know it's an anniversary card. I'm sure it would spin if I affixed it more loosely (and I will next time ... just to see).

Lucky You, Lucky Me card

I'm loving the daily excitement of creating projects for challenges! You've got to give it a try! Today I am entering 4 challenges. The first is a sketch challenge: M613 Sketch Challenge (see below) at Repeat Impressions. The second is a color challenge: going green at Trendy Twine which calls for a St. Patrick's Day theme with a clover, leprechaun (or both),  Monochromatic green (shades of green; no other colors) and Trendy Twine or hemp if you don't own any of their brand.  The third is an "it's all about the green" (plus ribbon) theme at 3 Girl Jam. Last but not least - is an Action Wobble challenge called seeing double. They asked for a project that has two of something that's exactly the same and to use an action wobble. I think my project was a perfect marriage between the three challenges!

This  project was a journey! Keeping in line with all the requirements and still exerting my creativity while trying new techniques was exhilarating! Quite by chance, I ended up with 2 double elements -the shamrocks and the dahlia seam binding bows. I have been watching some folks outline die cuts with twine. I love the look but have no idea how they keep the twine straight and not gluey looking?! I struggled with outlining this simple shape using glossy accents. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!! Please leave it in the comments section. I am in love with my Stampin' Up dahlias and their stamps (of course!). They always seem to have a perfect saying for my projects. AND being organized with the ScrapRack allows me to be familiar with my stash and know exactly where to find it. That makes being creative so much easier and fun!

Zora's Password Journal LO

 

I am enjoying participating in challenges! It's taking me out of my style, comfort zone and allowing me to get things done I would've pushed to the back burner! Won't you join me? Although the deadline is fast approaching there is still time to jump in!

 

This layout of my daughter Zora is my entry into the sketch challenge at Scrap Africa and the color challenge at Color Me Scrappy challenge blogs. Zora is my muse - the reason I started scrapbooking -  but I do not often scrap about her because her younger brother is who I'm scrapping these days. And, my first attempts at scrapbooking were horrible but so sentimental that I cannot move forward or go back. Have you ever felt like that? Well, today I am breaking the cycle and scrapping about my dear daughter. Now that's she old enough to ask for specific gifts, she asked for the Password Journal. Her aunt and uncle surprised her with it for Christmas last year. Here's her precious face after discovering the surprise.

• eBosser to emboss the 12x12 white cardstock with the delicate dots folder

Crafty tips - if you don't have time to wait for the picture to dry, use your heat gun to speed the drying process. To emboss a 12x12 sheet in the eBosser fold the cardstock at the 8 1/2" mark. Feed through one way and then turn it around and run it through the other way. It will not pass completely through the machine due to the thickness. half your page will be embossed and half will be debossed. It's a neat look that most people will not even notice.

1st Birthday Boy Layout - Instant Scrapbook

 

 

This is a first birthday layout included in an instant scrapbook I created for a client. It was inspired by an email I received from Embellish It! that included lots of rectangles to bring across a theme.

 

 

I started with scrapbook paper from my stash with a bithday theme and added chipboard stickers, 3D embellishments, patterned paper from my scraps bin, Alphas from Thickers. The wavy paper is from Provo Craft.

I decided to round some of the corners with my Creative memories corner rounder and use the Birthday themed cardstock elements. I have no idea of the paper line. But I did get in a class at CKC. A perfect layout without even turning on the Cricut! I love it!

DCWV July 4th Scrapbook Page

I love Die Cuts With A View (DCWV)! The base page does most of the work, which is important when you only have one page to exemplify a theme. It's from the Summer Days Stack. Coupled with Bazzill mats, Cuttlebug embossing, a die cut and sticker accents the page came together fast.

 

The patriotic die cut is from Cricut Cartidge A Child's Year. The red mat is from my stash. It is linen so it takes the embossing so well. I love the additional dimension in the Cuttlebug stars folder. All the mats were hand cut and rounded with my Creative Memories corner rounder - the best on the martjer in my opinion. Oh, and the glitter stickers are from Sticko (EK Success).

 

 

I am in love with these 3D sticker embellishments called Twinkling Goosebumps from Queen & Company. They fit the design perfectly! I'm feeling patriotic. I can't wait for warmer weather. How about you?
