Birthday Boy - Hats off Bib Card

In my last post I shared a feminine version of a Children's birthday card. Here's the masculine version also for an older child. Once again I used a bib card and layers from The Paper Cut and I pulled together more birthday stamps from my arsenal.

The element on the top of the bib card can be seen while the card is closed or open so I chose a small collage stamp form Inkadinkado for that extra pop.

The inside phrase was built using a few stamps to create the perfect sentiment. I think I like these even better than the feminine version. Do you????

Hats off to the Birthday Girl!

Children's birthday cards can be fun but challenging. We all love the cute animals and die cuts for children's cards, but I wanted to do something for an older child. I'm into stamping these days (have you noticed?) so I thought of making my own background using bib cards and layers from The Paper Cut.

Birthday hats were a logical expression for these cards and as I found out, I have a plethora of different hats in my stamp arsenal - some with more whimsy and others more girly.

While bib cards are smaller than A2, they have an element on the top that can be seen while the card is closed and while it's open. It's important to make that element stand out. I chose to use two small stamps. The birthday sprinkles stamped around the scalloped circle edge create a subtle tone on tone look to support the main image.

The sentiment was built using four stamps to create a collage. All the hats were accented with jewel dazzles from Hot Off the Press.

'Celebrate! Birthday Card' using Elizabeth Crafts Outline Stickers

I confess!! I'm truly obsessed with making my own glitter paper, adding Elizabeth Crafts outline stickers and coloring with Copics. I love the effect and how easy it is to create variations of color using the colorless blender and one color at a time.

This card was made using a portion of a Krazy Kreations card kit along with supplies from my craft room - Warm diamond glitter (Elizabeth Crafts), Copics, stamps, chalk ink, Recollections 110 lb cardstock, etc.

Here's an inside view of the card featuring a sentiment from the Cricut Artiste birthday collection stamp set from Close to My Heart in black onyx versafine ink.

Happy Birthday Card using Gelatos, Wink of Stella, Color Me Card Toppers and Tim Holtz Distress Ink

I've been playing with an American Crafts card base, Gelatos by Faber-Castell and Wink of Stella brush glitter markers! This 5 x7" happy birthday card was made with a Color Me Card Topper and sentiment, Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Recollections bling!

I've watched many videos that show how easy it is to work with Gelatos and a baby wipe applied directly to the project. I found it easy to do in large areas, however, the smaller areas were more challenging and didn't lend well to my design aesthetic. So I remedied the situation by using Wink of Stella. I also applied Gelatos to a craft mat and picked up the color with a fine paintbrush dipped in water to add in the confined areas. I liked that much better.

I try to keep my goals to achievable ones.
I want to attend a weekend crop.
Keep my scrap area organized so I can easily access the goodies I need....this involves continuing to organize some of the goodies not already done.
I want to blog more..........I have been falling behind on posting my LO's, about the farm and recipes.
Use my Cricut to its fullest ability.........

Oh wow, you have quite the list of goals! My only crafty goal this year is to just have fun with it. Last year, I found myself trying to create projects that felt more like a chore. I love to just be creative so that is what its about for me this year.

2015 Crafty Goals and a RAK for you!

Every year I think hard and long about my crafty goals! Just like crafty new year's resolutions I am gung-ho about them in the beginning but get lost somewhere around March. Ha ha! Are you with me???? Has it happened to you? Well, this year is SO different. I feel the spark like never before! SO here's my crafty goals. Let me know what you think. 2015 Crafty goals

Catch up on my scrapbooking. ----- I am embarrassed with the number of books that are in my head and the paper packs, embellishments, etc. I hoard to do it with. No more!! I have printed over 1000 pics over the last 10 years and I am going to get those baby books done and each year of the kid's lives. And listen... I am a perfectionist. I want it to be done to the height of style and decoration but ya know what... good enough will have to be good enough. I have a million sketched pinned on Pinterest and I'm going to use them!! I will post all that I make.
Sell my creations ----- I have a scrapbooking store in my house. I bought into a website 2 years ago and I must open it. I could sell on FB. I also have an awesome opportunity that will reveal soon. Point blank, I need to make things to sell and whittle down my stash which leads me to my next goal...
STOP buying every new thing on the market ----- OK, so Peachy keen closing and My Pink Stamper starting to make and sell stamps again and those tantalizing CHA posts and that HSN craft day got me... but I am dedicated to using my stash from now on. I am so addicted to reading blogs, watching YouTube, getting the latest thing. I really want a MISTI but no. If it's not for a client I don't need it. But I am going to get the new Tim Holtz distress ink color in every formulation and then that's it. hehehe
Keep organized - I am forever organizing. I need to find a system that works and know where all my stuff is and be able to access it at the drop of a hat. Keep the tornado out of my craft room. All the kid's papers and artwork and everything lands in my space. No more.
Know that my art is ENOUGH. ---- this year I am not going to procrastinate and get all worked up over creating. This is my sweet spot. My escape. My one thing that no one can take from me. I am a SAHM and wife and the ever looming laundry, workouts, cleaning, errands, etc. can bog a sistah down. I want to walk in and create and know that it's cool. It's great. It's enough. No more anxiety on that Jack!
Do more RAKs - it gives me joy to make others happy with my gifts and talents!

Masculine Get Well Card

When I heard one of my online crafty friends DH was hospitalized and in need of some cheering up, I offered to send a handmade card. Get Well cards for men (or any card for men) is not my strong point. So I decided to take the pressure off and create something my style and just to have fun with it. Here's what I came up with.

The A2 woodgrain base is from The Olde Town Market box of cards by The Paper Studio. I then layered scraps of cardstock from my stash. The script one is by Prima Marketing and the other... I don't remember!

My almost 10-year-old daughter helped me choose the gear stamps. I kept chanting... "I need something....MANLY!" In my best, deep, loud superhero voice and she kept me on track.

I tried to use Pinterest for inspiration but I have not pinned many masculine crafts yet and they all seem to have unrelated images with sayings. Why is that? I kept thinking I need something manly but not cutesy and it SO hard to do both with the right sentiment.

Normally I would use an umbrella image with this sentiment but I didn't feel it was manly enough. I'll be working on getting the manly cards right this year.
