Onesie Chipboard Album

Believe it or not, this is the first mini album (and it's shaped at that!) I created from scratch! I'm so excited. Bear with me, I have so much to share. This is a long post. Feel free to take breaks... LOL.

I love to work large (12x12), but my client pulled me out of my comfort zone when she asked for onesies for baby shower attendees to write messages on. In the end, she wanted to be able to put the onesies in an album, so I immediately thought of making a onesie shaped album. Presentation is everything!

The hot pink zebra print theme was right up my alley, and as always, I set out to create a masterpiece. To boot, this client was special, a dear high school friend found on Facebook, who had been noticing my crafty posts and knew my character... reminding me that I was her senior class president. True, true! And I love a good challenge. So it was on....like popcorn!!!

There were a million supplies. But a picture is worth a thousand words so I will share with you most of the designs. The thing I love about this onesie is that it is the same exact shape backwards or forwards. I did not have to use the flip function to make the onesies fit on the back side of the chipboard.

I used binder clips to hold the onesie in place to punch the holes with crop a dile. It helped to use the ruler on the crop a dile so the placement of the holes were standard across all the onesies. The best tip of 2013 is to color your own bling with Copic markers!

When putting together this book, it is important to pay attention to where your embellishments are placed. The goal is to make the book as flat as possible. In general, I decorated the neckline, sleeves, high waist, low waist and bottom. Create an equal amount of designs and mix it up to make sure the decorations don't cause the book to gape open once it's assembled.

Note: the onesies must be returned after the shower for assembly into the book. That's a chance to get any triage done. There was food on some, others were wrinkled etc. It helps if you put a huge X on the side you don't want people to write on. The onesies were so pretty I guess folks didn't feel right writing on them. Half were written on the back only. Guests didn't know the pages were going to be adhered to chipboard afterwards. I ended up having to re-write (and you know it's hard to read folks' handwriting - hope I got it right!?!) half of the onesies myself.

Supplies:
  • Onesie from the New Arrival Cricut cartridge pg. 99
  • DCWV Black 12x12" chipboard - onesies cut at 11" with the shadow function (Qty. 12)
  • Covers: onesie cut with the blackout function - glossy hot pink zebra print cardstock from The Paper Studio Safari Untamed stack (Qty. 2)
  • Onesies cut at 11" form hot pink cardstock from The Paper Studio (Qty. 22)
  • A bib: Cricut Imagine cartridge Nursery Tails cut at 6.5"
  • The cover is adorned with glitter dome strips by Crystal stickers, bloomers, Paper Studio bling brads,  cardstock punched with a Martha Stewart punch: scallop 2 dots, printing done on my Epson workforce
  • The onesies were adorned with a host of supplies by: The Paper Studio Spare Parts, bloomers, making memories, Spellbinders want 2 scrap, Petaloo Floral embellishments, Heidi Swapp, My big ideas - mambi stones, Bazzill cardstock, Recollections, EK success, Marvy Uchida and Martha Stewart punches
  • Adhesives - Terrifically Tacky Tape, Scotch ATG, Thermoweb zots - petite to jumbo, Invisible tape
  • Crop a dile big bite - 3/16" hole set to 1" depth
  • Rings - bead landing
  • Copic markers, Zig writer
It was a mass production situation in my dining room!

Here's a few of my favorite designs. I had lots of fun creating my own layered embellishments with punches, buttons, card stock, bling, brads etc.

This is my favorite one. I used a whole pack of Paper Studio paper clips that had hot pink zebra print ribbon on top. I raided Hobby Lobby for anything in this pattern and they had a lot of it! I covered the actual paper clips with bloomers to make it more presentable. This onesie is heavy. Be sure to secure it with heavy 2 sided tape.

Oh, Lawd I feel like I am giving birth to this post!! So many pics, info... I haven't eaten all morning. But I have to get this out to y'all!
