Easter Card for the First Lady

My daughter Zora often asks me to craft. During our last craft session I taught her how to heat emboss. On this particular day, I figured we'd try out a new Easter stamp I had picked up from Hobby Lobby and the heat embossing technique. I figured I also would show her some basic shading techniques with the Copics markers. She did a great job coloring with minimal mistakes. (I did, however, use the colorless blender in several spots to clean up.)

Supplies
Jo-Ann Craft Essentials White A2 Card & Envelope
Thickers glitter chipboard letters
Versamark Ink
Recollections Opaque Lilac Embossing powder
SEI Poppy Mat Stack
Ribbon from my stash
Copics - Chicks: Y06, B0000 Eggs: BG06, R85 G02

Zora then came up with a narrative for the inside of the card. This is the neatest I have ever seen her write! I was very impressed with the message and the penmanship. Writing is an area she struggles with.

Once she discovered we were invited by Mocha Moms Inc. to attend the Presidential Easter Egg Roll this past Monday, she was convinced that this card was made for Michelle Obama. We were given the commorative wooden egg as a souvenir. Unfortunately, we did not see her at the event. Someone from the Obama family read a story for the crowd under the guise of "special guest" and with every other exciting activity going on, Zora didn't chose story time. She wanted to see the McClain sisters and Zandaya perform.

I will find a way to mail this card to the First Lady. Hopefully she received it and responds. My daughter's loving heart depends on it!

Monogram Stationery - Cricut Imagine

A quick and easy gift for teachers or loved ones in your life could be this monogram card and envelope set. Both the card and envelope were printed and cut from Cricut Imagine cart Imagine More. I started out with 2 sheets of white 12x12 Bazzill basics cardstock. The specific designs were already predetermined.

For the monogram I used both parts of the cut positive and negative L from the Mini Monograms cart. The positive L is on the envelope and the negative L is on the front of the card.

The back of the card and the front of the envelope are shown here. Aren't they adorable? A set of 6, 8 or 10 would be a great gift. Mini Monograms offers several options for the monogram.

Fancy Bird Card - Cricut Imagine

I love this DCWV cardstock and had to use it for this card. The bird was print and cut from Cricut Imagine Lori's Garden. When my ink was low, I printed a bunch of images from this cart to keep for layering later. I printed the bird with a fresh ink cartridge and then raised it on foam tape. The lighter washed out looking print is beneath.

Satin ribbon really gives the card the pop I was looking for. I wish I had more views of the card but this is it....

Until tomorrow...

Pink Flower card - Cricut imagine

I once got a tip from Tammy Skinner to use up all the Cricut Imagine ink by printing until it runs out and using the lighter cuts for layering or for pastel colored projects. It was the best tip I've gotten in a long time.

The beautiful flower is from the Lori's Garden Cricut Imagine cart. The card base and blue layer are Bazzill. The dry embossing was done with the Cuttlebug and the Cuttlebug Morrocan Screen embossing folder. The corners were rounded with the Creative Memories corner rounder.

If you look closely, you can see that the bottom layer of this flower is much lighter. Foam tape gives it height. I love the glitter ribbon from Micheal's but you cannot tie it the same way. Glitter will be everywhere. So I think it works best as an accent rather than a bow. Because the card is dark, I included the blue panel for writing a message on the inside.

Floral card - Cricut Imagine

Using Core'dinations cardstock and Lori's Garden Cricut Imagine cart, I created this simple yet stunning greeting card that can be used for any occasion. The Core'dinations cardstock is teal on one side and brown on the other. If you distress the brown side, the teal will show through for a cool effect.

Instead, I decided to use piece of the teal side to dry emboss using my Cuttlebug and the Cuttlebug script embossing folder to create a coordinating layer. Finishing off the look is a floral stem print and cut with the Cricut Imagine from the Lori's Garden cart. I got the ribbon at Micheal's and it's my fav of the moment. Everything is adhered with my general purpose adhesive in my pink ATG gun.

Religious Birthday Card Set

I have lots of views of this religious birthday card set I created for a client. I just wanted you to be able to see each card type and the packaging. I used pink cardstock from Bazzill and multi-colored cardstock from DCWV. The stamped sentiments are from Stampin Up! in the set called "God's Blessings."

These cards are created with one of my favorite Cricut carts - Damask Decor. I love using pattened paper to cut the damasks. On the inside of the card you can see what one of the patterns looked like originally. It looks nice, but once the damask is cut (as seen above and below) the pattern looks spectacular.

I love most ribbon but my favorite kind right now is seam binding! It comes in a variety of colors and is very pliable. I like that I can package it and once it's unpackaged it fluffs back up just fine instead of being crushed.

Each card in the set has a different Damask design created with different cardstock. But all are stamped with the same two sentiments. My favorite of this set is in the picture above on the left. My tip is that using a spray adhesive to attach the Damask is the best way. However, it is important to have a layer of newspaper out so you can spray and immediately adhere the Damask or it will lift up because it has become repositionable. (bad bad bad!) so work diligently, cleanly and fast.

The packaging I used is a clear acrylic box that held the cards and the envelopes. I got a package of 8 from Denami Designs Rubber Stamps. They come flat and ready to fold.

Happy Birthday - Cricut Imagine

An even quicker option for creating a special card on the fly is to use the Cricut Imagine. I started out with a pre-cut card by DCWV. I rounded the corners with my Creative Memories corner rounder (the BEST on the market in my opinion). Using one sheet of white cardstock and Lori's Garden Cricut Imagine cart, I printed and cut all the elements for the card. The scallop square on the front of the card, the happy birthday graphic and the 2 borders on the inside of the card (bracket and scallop). By adding tiny self-adhesive pearls and a message we're done in 15 mins flat!

With Sympathy

Last week, I lost a friend suddendly. I created this card for her only child, a teenage daughter left to fend for herself in the world at such a formative time. My heart is heavy, but with prayer all things are possible. I've prayed for the family since the tradegy happened. I know God is able.

Along with this card, I sent a journal and pen so that she may record her thoughts and feelings to aid in her healing. I also sent a prayer book entitled The Lord bless and keep you; a treasury of God's promises.

Supplies:
  • card base - Cricut Cartridge Sophie cut at 5.5" from Bazzill dotted swiss white cardstock
  • both layers - SEI Poppy Stack
  • bling frame - Spellbinders want 2 scrap Nestabling
  • with sympathy stamp - The stamps of Life - branches4flowers #24
  • ink - Clear & Simple stamps Hybrid Ink - Espresso your style
  • Glitter adhesive dots - Recollections
  • corner rounder - Creative memories
  • inside message written with AtYouSpica glitter pen - chocolate
  • recycled ribbon (I keep ribbon from items and reuse it)

Heat Embossed Happy Birthday card

This birthday card was created by using two stamps from the Stampin Up! builder wheel line. There are several stamps you can stack together in a mix and match fashion to make your own special design. The handle can hold 1, 2 or 3 builder wheel stamps. I used 2 in this design.

The candle stamp is called "candle crazy" and the happy birthday stamp is called 'birthday." These stamps are round and are stamped by loading them into a handle and rolling the stamps across the paper. It usually has a self inking feature but this time I used a versamark ink pad so that I could heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

I find it quite a challenge to keep the stamping straight. This was my first shot at it and although I am pleased with it, it is slightly crooked.  I have since started using a metal ruler to help me stay on the straight and narrow. LOL.

In order to get the image across the whole card front I had to stamp it twice. My tips are: if the stamp has words, make sure the words are going the right way and that the words are beginning of the word or phrase before you start stamping. I am right handed so I roll it from left to right which makes the words stamp backwards. I suggest you put a larger piece of scrap paper underneath so you can make sure the stamping goes across the entire project. roll off both edges of the project and onto the scrap paper. Always use even pressure.

Happy Stamping!

Happy Birthday Card - Dry embossing

This week I am going to showcase items I have made in the past but have not yet debuted on the blog. I'll keep it short, sweet and to the point, but please ask me questions if you need more details.

This is a quick birthday card I made "ta-da" without the Cricut!! In a pinch any card looks great with dry embossing, stamping and ribbon. I not only saved myself time and money but I also created a one of a kind keepsake for the recipient.

Supplies:
  • Core'dinations cardstock
  • DCWV cardstock
  • Cuttlebug and Cuttlebug spots and dots embossing folder
  • diamon patterned ribbon from my stash
  • Happy Birthday stamp from Just for Fun
  • Stazon ink - black
